Press Pause December Challenge
So far this month there have still been plenty of jobs being advertised and interviews taking place, but it is important that you regularly review what you are doing and make sure that you are not missing out, so we are suggesting that you join us and take a step back to review what is working and what is not.

Last week in the Friday workshop we looked at physically walking round your immediate area and researching what businesses are right on your doorstep, or within a ten minute walk of your house. How much do you know about them and have you ever considered working there? Introducing yourself to them, if this can be done safely and consciously shopping and using your very local facilities might unearth opportunities that you wouldn’t otherwise find. One person was told by two or three businesses that they planned to recruit in the next few months and was able to drop in a CV to be considered when the times comes. With careful follow up that might lead to a new direction for 2021.

If you are planning to go and see people face to face then you might not have much time to explain, especially with the COVID restrictions, so its even more important to craft a good elevator pitch to clearly share why you are there. Some useful hints and tips are here Good Elevator Pitch

Everyone is working hard on LinkedIn and interacting with other people to learn more about the industries they are looking to work in as well as finding out more about those local businesses that they have spotted.

Here are some great practical steps to follow if you are struggling to think of anything Job Search Tips

If you still want to practice application or interview questions this month then just pop back into some of the previous bulletins and find one that suits you. There are 36 weeks to choose from, all accessible from the bulletin bar on the SETAS website. Otherwise take this time to concentrate on those other ways to connect that we are sharing and only apply for job roles that really grab you.

Temporary or Short Term opportunities
There are a couple of national initiatives being rolled out, which require a large number of people for temporary or short contracts from the New Year. If you have a JCP Work Coach and are thinking of applying for anything like this, just speak to them and check what impact it will have on any benefits that you are receiving before applying.

Maintaining good Mental and Physical Health
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned about making connections and ways in which you might actively work on making new ones.

If you know of someone who is less confident at using online tools then here is a request for help from an organisation seeking to support people to learn this important skill. If you are able to share your skills with others yourself, then also get in touch and offer to be one of their supporters. You might find that you really enjoy it and want to find out about more opportunities to get involved in the longer term.

Christmas Day online
If you are separated from friends and family due to COVID and would welcome the chance to join with some other people online on Christmas Day itself, then our friends at the WEA are running a series of events throughout the day. You can come and go as you please and there are lots of short sessions to choose from. WEA christmasday
