Welcome to the Twenty Third bulletin 
 
Our first two WISH Virtual Workshops have already taken place and today (4th of September) at 2pm we looked at all kinds of ways to job search, which will provide new ideas for those who are struggling a bit with the monotony of it. Why not sign up for the coming weeks' workshops and see if someone has a brilliant tactic that you haven’t tried yet? It’s been great to get together and remember that there are similar frustrations for others too and you are definitely not on your own!

This course is for anyone who is lacking in confidence about their abilities and the skills and qualities they have to offer in the workplace. The course covers Transferable Skills, How to find and apply for Jobs, Tips on how to write a CV and Covering Letter & how to give a good impression at Interviews. 
 
Skill of the week - Optimism 
A bit of a funny one perhaps, especially in these uncertain times, but employers are looking for people who are enthusiastic about working for them even if it isn’t your ideal job. Spend time this week noticing how you react to comments that people make and try to gauge whether someone who didn’t know you well would describe you as a generally positive person to be around. If you are finding yourself feeling negative about everything maybe you need some help – we have posted plenty of links on previous bulletins or get in touch with us to find someone to talk to. 
 
Interview question of the week - Would you be happy to work in the office once we are all back in our usual building? 
Obviously everyone's situation is different and your answer will depend on your personal circumstances. Take some time to think about what factors you need to take into account if you were to be asked this today. 
 
Do you have health issues that might impact on your ability to return immediately? 
Are you able to do the role effectively from home, with the necessary IT and physical surroundings? 
Do you have caring responsibilities and how would you be affected if other parts of the infrastructure were suddenly restricted like schools, transport and parking. 
What else would you need to put in place to make it work? 
 
This question is actually only a COVID variation on the one which every person needs to ask themselves when applying for any job, but it is especially important that you sound confident and avoid vague statements. Please don’t make the assumption that if you are not ready to return yet that you will automatically be ruled out of getting the job, rather be prepared to explain how you have already considered potential issues and suggest possible solutions.
